Computer modeling is the primary step in creating 3D computer graphics. If the model is not built to be optimized and compatible with the rest of the production tools, the rest of the digital process becomes more and more difficult. Texture mapping digital models helps to create the surface detail that can make a computer-generated image appear photorealistic. Inspired 3D Modeling and Texture Mapping examines the strategies for modeling and texture mapping used by the largest and most respected computer graphic studios in the world. Loaded with concepts, case studies, tutorials, interviews, and hundreds of graphic examples, this book is a valuable exploration of the tested practices of computer graphics industry veterans.

Animation movies and favorite Animation Characters

Movie clips containing animation, both solely and partly, can be classified as animated movie clips. In general, the best example of an animated clip would be a small cartoon film or a cartoon character in a normal clip.

If we take a look at the recent releases, there is no major movie based on 2D animation. Is 2D animation worn out, or just not commercial enough? Even if those classic animations are always a pleasure to watch, you have to admit that the modern animation is more attractive.

Do you love cartoons and animated films? In this modern day and age, animation is much more sophisticated. The painstakingly hand drawings of the last decade has been replaced by computer aided images. the lush colors of Snow White and the Seven Dwarves or the latest state of the art Pixar creation. The creative invention of the animation character is the important thing for me. I like characters that are presented well with good characterization and story.

If we take a look at the box office, we see 2 animation movies in top 10 (Shrek 2 and Finding Nemo) with 1,7 billion dollars revenue. That is amazing. I would like to see a movie like Shrek, with real actors, scenes, and other real stuff. From the creators’ point of view, it is cheaper because, with today’s special effects, anything is possible with real actors, and they can’t deny that.

The person most responsible for the big screen success of animated movies was Walt Disney who began in the 1920s by creating such memorable characters as Mickey Mouse and Donald Duck. One of his first full feature length films was "Steamboat Willie" which starred Mickey Mouse. such memorable character as "Cinderella", "Snow White" "Peter Pan" and the half animated half real person masterpiece "Mary Poppins", which was unique for the times.

The animation character of Top Cat, or TC, as he was known to his friends, he ruled over his alleyway, was the king of his gang and ran rings round the local cops. Disney had great villains too, such as the wonderful Cruella da Ville from 101 Dalmatians. She has got to be the greatest baddie cartoon character of all time. Small children today are still probably afraid of her character. While Tom and Jerry still plays today and is probably the most enduring of the old cartoons. Adults seem to like this sort of animation character as much as the kids do. The character of finding Nemo, A Bug’s Life or the Incredible. Chicken Run, this is a very interesting animation, because it’s not like the other.

As long as there are kids, both young and old, there will always be a market for big budget animated films. And they just keep getting bigger and better.

Animation Studios

Definitions of animation is, a motion picture made from a series of drawings simulating motion by means of slight progressive changes. a motion picture made by photographing successive positions of inanimate objects. The definition of studio is artist's workroom, room, building, or group of buildings where movies, television shows, or radio programs are produced, company that produces films, studio apartment.

Animation studios, like movie studios, may be production facilities, or financial entities. In some cases, especially in Anime they continue the tradition of a studio where a Master or group of talented individuals oversees the work of lesser artists and crafts persons in realizing their vision.

The first examples of trying to capture motion into a drawing can already be found in Paleolithic cave paintings, where animals are depicted with multiple legs in superimposed positions, clearly attempting to depict a sense of motion. Walt Disney Animation Studios is the animation studio that makes up a key element of The Walt Disney Company, and the oldest surviving animation studio in the world. The feature animation studio was an integrated part of Walt Disney Productions from 1934 (the start of production on Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs) until 1986, when, during the corporate restructuring to create The Walt Disney Company, it officially became a subsidiary of the company. The studio was named Walt Disney Feature Animation (WDFA) until 2007, when it was renamed to reflect its change of direction under new management.

DreamWorks Animation SKG
DreamWorks is a fairly recent addition to the animation industry; it has skyrocketed to become a major player, competing with several other shining newcomers.
Eidos Interactive
Eidos is one of the world's leading developers and publishers of entertainment software, and is the largest video game developer and publisher in the UK.
Pixar Animation Studios
Pixar is an award-winning animation studio famous for its computer-animated film shorts and for the feature films that it produces in conjunction with Disney.
Square Enix
Square Enix is responsible for video games such as the famous Final Fantasy Series, Secret of Mana, Chrono Trigger, and many others.
The Walt Disney Company
Disney is one of the most famous names in the animation industry, known for providing entertainment directed to adults and children alike; with theme parks around the world and a world-class animation studio and business franchise, the company nearly dominates the industry.

3D Modeling

3D technology has come a long way. 3D computer graphics are different from 2D computer graphics in that a three-dimensional representation of geometric data is stored in the computer for the purposes of performing calculations and rendering 2D images.
A 3D model is the mathematical representation of any three-dimensional object.

3D modeling
3D modeling is the process of developing a mathematical, wire frame representation of any three-dimensional object (either inanimate or living) via specialized software. The product is called a 3D model. 3D models are used for many different functions including animation, design, manufacturing, previsualization, virtual reality, and games.

Modeling is the process of creating 3D objects, whether for animation or otherwise. Simple objects call for simple models, and complicated objects call for a complex of simple models. The tough things are deciding how to represent an object in 3D. Just like a sculptor, you must analyze the object and deconstruct its design to learn how it exists.
3D software uses three types of modeling: NURBS, polygons, and subdivision surfaces. All three types require a process that begins with deciding which modeling method to use.

Modeling processes

Polygonal modeling - Various spots on a xyz grid are mapped out. The dots are connected in a linear fashion to create an outline of the object. The computer then calculates the faces in between these lines. These faces are referred to as polygons.
Polygons are made up of faces. A single polygon face is a flat surface made when three or more points called vertices are connected. The position of each vertex defines the shape and size of face, a triangle. The line that connects one vertex to another is called an edge. Few polygonal faces have four vertices instead of three, creating a square face instead of a triangular one.

NURBS modeling - The spots are mapped out once again, but this time, curved lines are placed in between these spots. How close the line gets to the weights depends on their placement. A group of six weights spaced equidistant from each other will form a circle. But, if you add one more point very close to one of the weights, the circle will become elongated towards the spot of those two points placed closely together. It is based on mathematics that is more complicated than the mathematics for polygons. NURBS modeling requires more processing, this method is typically used for applications in which the rendering is done in advance, such as animation for film or telivision. NURBS modeling excels at creating curved shapes and line, so it is most often used for organic forms such as animals and people,as well as highly detailed cars and the like.

Subdivision Surfaces - It is incorporate the best of polygons and NURBS modeling to give you the ease of polygon creation with the smoothness and organic forms of NURBS geometry. It is usally start as polygonal surfaces. You then use NURBS math to smooth the rough polygon surfaces by subdividing them according to how the model needs to look.
Modeling can be performed by means of a dedicated program (e.g., Maya (software), 3DS Max, Blender, Lightwave), an application component (Shaper, Lofter in 3DS Max) or some scene description language (as in POV-Ray). In some cases, there is no strict distinction between these phases; in such cases modelling is just part of the scene creation process (this is the case, for example, with Caligari trueSpace and Realsoft 3D).

Market for 3D models
There is a large and thriving market for 3D models (as well as 3D-related content, such as textures, scripts, etc.), either as individual models or large collections. Online marketplaces for 3D content allow individual artists to sell content that they have created. Often, the artists' goal is to get additional value out of assets they have previously created for projects. By doing so, artists can earn more money out of their old content, and companies can save money by buying pre-made models instead of paying an employee to create one from scratch. These marketplaces typically split the sale between themselves and the artist that created the asset, often in a roughly 50-50 split. In most cases, the artist retains ownership of the 3d model; the customer only buys the right to use and present the model.
